Description
Metridiidae with the mesogloeal sphincter muscle restricted to the distal part of the scapus, not extending into the capitulum. Catch-tentacles may occur (rare in British specimens). The acontia of large individuals may lack p-mastigophores.
Type-species: Metridium senile (Linnaeus, 1761)
