Description
Solitary Caryophylliinae, fixed or free; pali present in single cycle opposite tertiary septa (may be opposite secondaries where hexamerous symmetry is lost), columella consisting of twisted ribbons or thicker vertical rods. Edge-zone of polyp not completely covering corallum.
Type-species: Caryophyllia cyathus (Ellis and Solander, 1786)
