Description
Athenaria possessing a mesogloeal sphincter muscle which may sometimes be double. Column usually elongated and differentiated into regions, scapus often with adhesive papillae (tenaculi). Aboral end rounded, without a limbus. Mesenteries differentiated into macrocnemes and microcnemes, macrocnemes generally 12, sometimes 8 or 10, microcnemes long, extending for most or all the length of the column. Only one British species.
